Mattel’s Hyperscan

Developer: Mattel

Year Released: 2006

Generation: 7th

The Mattel HyerScan was Mattel’s second entry into the video game market following the Intellivision. It was the first and only console to use Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology.

The idea of the HyerScan was to combine card collecting with video gaming. When scanned, cards would activate characters or power them up for the game currently being played. Only five games were released for the HyerScan out of the seven announced. The system was discontinued in 2008.
